Being Like a Tree and Blessings for the Solstice

First of all, Happy Solstice, up here in the northern hemisphere we are on the longest night of the year, with the return of the light…time to reflect on our achievements from the past year and prepare ourselves for a new beginning.

“This is the solstice, the still point of the sun, its cusp and midnight, the year’s threshold and unlocking, where the past lets go of and becomes the future; the place of caught breath.” ― Margaret Atwood.

Now I want to talk about TREES!

I walk a lot in the desert, and am enamored with the old twisty, barky trees I come across. Trees are amazing creatures. They can live for hundreds of years, and they provide us with food, shelter, and oxygen. But what can we learn from trees?

What do these trees bring up for me? Strength, rootedness, groundedness, expanding.

One thing we can learn from trees is the importance of roots. Roots are what anchor a tree to the ground and give it stability. They also help the tree absorb water and nutrients from the soil. In the same way, we need to have strong roots to be stable and successful in life. So we can grow and expand up…
